Having secured the Main Event win during the 2017 World Poker Tour Legends of Poker in August, Art Papazyan continued his success by winning the Main Event of the WPT Maryland Live! Art finished first in the big event, securing a second World Poker Title, becoming one of only a select few who have earned more than one WPT title within one season.
The WPT event had a buy-in of $3,500 and 561 players signed up to compete. In the end, Art would be the last player standing, earning $389,405 for his efforts. Included in the first place prize was a $15,000 seat to the WPT Tournament of Champions, the season-ending event. Because Art already won his second WPT event, he had earned a spot in the tournament, so he was given the equivalent in cash.
By the time the WPT Maryland Live! Main Event final table had whittled down to the final two, Art would be facing off against Zachary Donovan in heads-up play. The Maryland Live! poker room would showcase the two as they battled it out to see who the final winner would be. Art had a sizable lead over Donovan with 10.44 million chips to his opponent’s 6.43 million.
Eventually, Art would begin to pull away with an even larger chip lead, and would call one of Donovan’s all-in shoves. Art would hold pocket Kings and Donova 7BALL n held A-4 off-suit. The board fell 10-10-8-5-J giving Art’s Kings the win and Donovan would have to settle for a second place finish.
