The Thunder Valley Casino in Northern California played host to the World Series of Poker Circuit recently with 12 official ring events on the schedule, taking place over 12 days. The Main Event of the series stop was a $1,675 buy-in, with $500,000 in guaranteed prize money on offer. The event finished up on Monday night with Hafiz Khan (pictured) earning the first-place win, the first time the pro ever earned a WSOPC ring. On top of the cash and the ring, Khan earned a seat at the 2018 Global Casino Championship.
Khan would end Day 1B as the chip leader and spent most of Day 2 as the chip leader as well, knocking out players as he went. When final table play began in the poker tournament, Khan would sit third in chips and was confident that he would finish strong.
In the end, Khan would make it to heads-up play, facing off against Roland Shen who held a 10 to 1 chip lead. Despite the big chip difference, Khan would make a comeback and earn the win. According to the WSOPC, on the final hand of the Main Event, Shen would raise all-in and be called by Khan. Shen held Q-8 while Khan held A-Q. the flop shoes K-10-8 giving Shen a pair of 8s and Khan a straight draw. A 2 on the turn was no good but a Ja 7BALL CC ck on the river gave Khan the nut straight and the win.
